STANDARDS OVERVIEW

The Lord has said, “Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly” (D&C 121:45).  The natural follow on principle is found in the thirteenth Article of Faith “We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous and in doing good to all men… if there is anything virtuous, lovely or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.”

YSA who attend convention are expected to live in harmony with gospel teachings and to dress and act in accordance with the standards contained in the For the Strength of Youth. This will ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable and uplifting experience.

Continued attendance at YSA Convention requires adherence to these standards.

The following prohibited activities will result in your being sent home immediately:

  • Participating in or encouraging immoral behaviour of any kind, which includes breaking the law of chastity and viewing pornography in any form.
  • Breaking the Word of Wisdom (alcohol, drugs, tobacco, vape) -  including the possession of any illegal substances and vaping.  ANU has a strict policy of no smoking or vaping on campus at all times.
  • Possession of weapons or firearms of any kind.
  • Shoplifting, theft, or vandalism of any kind.
  • Doing anything harmful to yourself or others physically, spiritually, or emotionally, including any form of bullying.

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

Dress and Appearance - The way you dress is a reflection of what you are on the inside. Your dress and grooming send messages about you to others and influence the way you and others act.

"Modesty is an attitude of humility and decency in dress, grooming, language, and behaviour. If you are modest, you do not draw undue attention to yourself. Instead, you seek to glorify God in your body, and in your spirit" (True to the Faith [2004], pg 106). "As you make decisions about your clothing, hairstyle and appearance, ask yourself, ‘Am I honouring my body as a sacred gift from God’ Heavenly Father wants us to see each other for who we really are: not just physical bodies but His beloved children with a divine destiny. Avoid styles that emphasize or draw inappropriate attention to your physical body instead of who you are as a child of God with an eternal future. Let moral cleanliness and love for God guide your choices.’’

YSA are expected to maintain gospel standards and follow all dress and appearance guidelines (see For the Strength of Youth for details).

Language and Behaviour - “Like your dress and grooming, your language and behaviour are expressions of your character. Your words and actions can have a profound influence on you and on others. Express yourself in clean, positive, uplifting language and in actions that bring happiness to those around you” (True to the Faith [2004], pg 108).

Charity - Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you; “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:39).

Obedience - Obedience to the commandments is an expression for our love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS

Lanyrads/ID Cards – You must have your convention ID card on you at all times! It will get you in to all activities, access to all meals and facilities at ANU. We have provided lanyards so that you can keep it with you at all times. If you lose your ID card, you may need to pay a fee. Please let any of the organising committee know if you lose your card so it can be replaced.
